Life Lesson

The last couple of weeks have been full of ups and downs for me. I got to meet my parents and one of my best friends after two months.

Then after a few days, I had to face collateral damage and side-effects of an Indian marriage.

My mother fell ill, my wife had to be hospitalized.

Then, this thought came to my mind - no matter what is going on in your life, there should be, or must be, at least one thing in your life which is constant.

No matter what you are going through or how much busy you are, you never leave doing that thing!

It could be anything like painting, running, exercising, playing any sport, writing, yoga, or just conscious breathing for 5 minutes.

Just do it daily!

Positive Feel-Good Story

Organic farming success story

Haripriya and Sivapriya get ready for school every morning in Attingal, Thiruvananthapuram. Aside from their books and lunchboxes, they also have a sack full of freshly produced veggies from their farm.

The 18-year-old says that their father did not have a steady source of income, and the family struggled to make ends meet. As a result, the girls began growing vegetables in gunny bags outside their house.

It was tiny, but three neighbours joined together to assist and leased them 80 cents of land (a little less than a acre) for free to cultivate.

But none of them had any farming experience.

"At our mother's farm, we had only seen our grandparents perform the farming." We had a vague understanding of the procedure and approaches to be used. "First, we opted to produce tapioca, which is a lot easier to cultivate than other veggies," she explains.

According to Sivapriya, the sisters did not use any scientific expertise in their farming. "After having success with tapioca, we began to plant additional veggies including cowpeas, bottle gourd, okra, tubers, and others."

We didn't have any money, so we utilised vegetable seeds and obtained seedlings from Krishi Bhavan, a State Government body that assists farmers," she explains.

They procured the organic manure from a nearby chicken farm.

The sisters then sold the vegetables at the local market. "We also took it to school to inform our instructors about our agricultural enterprise. We also shared some of the vegetables with the neighbours who rented us the property," she explains.

Organic farming success story

Haripriya, a Class 9 student, claims that they are unable to compute a definite sum for their monthly wages. However, the activity has undoubtedly assisted them in meeting their daily costs and covering the school tuition.

All in all it has improved their lives.

Now I don’t know what to assess of the situation. But we can all agree upon one thing: that it is nothing short of inspirational.

Podcast/Book/Video Suggestion

Is there a purpose to living by none other than Alan Watts.

Quote/Poem

Given the current turmoil on the world stage, I want to share a poem written by a 4-yr old on How to fix a World

Sit down, world
and relax
so you don’t have tornadoes.

Trees, color your leaves.

Relax, people. Go to sleep.

Relax, wolves. Lay down by the trees.

Relax, bullets from guns.
Stop shooting people.

Fire, eat wood.
